I Think It's Going To Be OK...

 

Crossed fingers.

Everyone got the Hollywood-ending-style news, but missed the actual big news the other day. Both are the same story: The Supreme Court tossed out the petition filed by Texas and a variety of other states to overturn the election results in three or four so-called "battleground" states.

Everyone thinks that the news is that Trump got his ass handed to him.

Wrong. Everyone who actually knows anything at all about how the real world works knew that was going to happen. That version of the "news" is like a headline breaking the story "The Sun Is Rising In The East Tomorrow". Only the most marinated-in-conspiracy-horseshit leftist versions of Bunker Bunnies seriously considered for a second that The Nine would give Trump even a token win on this one because they "owed" him, but practically everyone thought they'd at least hear the arguments.

No, the news (in an astonishing example of Journalism 101's definition of "Burying The Lead") is WHY they wouldn't even let it in the front door.

Two of the justices said they'd have let the suit proceed pro-forma, but absolutely would have ruled against it because it was essentially fact-free bullshit. That's what everyone thinks happened — you file bullshit, you get a polite hearing, you get tossed. 

But the others said that they wouldn't even look at it because — and here's the news that got buried in Rachel Maddow-style hack-reporter gloating — the States filing the suit and the Executive Branch (Trump, et al) HAVE NO STANDING TO INTERFERE IN HOW A STATE CONDUCTS ITS VOTING, even with Federal implications.

Still don't get it? Let me clarify: This is probably the most straightforward "States' Rights" ruling that's come down in decades.

Remember that "Move The Federal Judiciary Dramatically 'Right'" push by the Republicans over the last 4 years which, to my mind, is the only useful thing Trump actually accomplished? This is ruling #1 from that New Order, and as clearly as sunrise heralds a Court whose philosophy is changing course on the concept of States' Rights. 

The Court in a bullet-proof majority essentially ruled that neither they (the Court itself) nor anyone else has even come close to overcoming the high bar against interference by anyone in how the individual States want to run their business, even on an issue of such intense Federal-level interest. And of all the reasons the Court could have used to flush this thing, THAT one is the news story.

And it may even bring us all together at last. After all, I'm laughing as the Left cheers…
