And, of course, it is buried half-way down the page, the third story in the "Environment" section, way down below Bangkok, Korea, the World Cup, and the arrest warrant issued for Lindsay Lohan directing her apprehension when she comes back into the country for being a useless skank.
They've been working on it for 15 years (at least this batch has been - people have been working on it for hundreds or maybe thousands of years, since at least the days of alchemy), and finally made it happen.
Let's leave aside the fact for the moment that they'll kill us all if it gets out of control. Eh, this is really no big deal anyhow since practically everything WILL, nowadays.
No, the really IMPORTANT part of this is that it is the final proof, if any were needed, that life CAN/DOES arise from non-life/chemistry/whatever-you-want-to-call-it, and that life is in fact almost insanely likely to exist just about everywhere that the right chemistry and conditions exist, which is to say in at least MILLIONS and more probably BILLIONS of places in our galaxy alone.
The proof couldn't be any more convincing if Klaatu landed his flying saucer on the White House lawn and his ray-beam shooting robot accidentally dissolved Obama and Congress on live TV when it classified them as a threat to rational humans.
This is actually no-shit big-deal stuff, and the fact that it's received as little coverage as it has pretty much says all that needs to be said about the intellectual grasp of news organizations and most of their readers.
