"Treme" - It's on HBO. It's about a New Orleans neighborhood, and it's been critical SMASH.
OK, now I've seen it - and everything I ever thought about the worthless bunch of slugs who inhabit the place has been confirmed. This bunch of useless humans float around their bathtub-ring, shit-on landscape being distressed over NOLA "never coming back." Bullshit. It never left. These are the same multi-generational, unemployed, welfare-collecting, po' mouth hookers, strippers, pimps, "street musicians" (read "bums"), crooked cops, venal, on-the-take politicians and lowlife defense attorneys living in their own garbage that were there before the big wave hit.
Feh.
CNN is asking the question "Is The Oil Spill Obama's Katrina?" Well, it would be better than he deserves, but I dunno about that. However the combination of the two in a single sentence and watching that show made me think of a solution for BOTH problems. Get the Corps of Engineers to re-breach the levees and that nastly ol' spill will be sucked into the below-sea-level bowl (or "bowel" if you prefer) that constitutes the lower 9th Ward. Think soap rushing into the upper drain-hole in a bathtub. Once the oil slick is skimmed off, plug the hole to prevent any backwash and call it a day.

OK, but I've still never had a praline. :(
ReplyDeleteNot so much red as ginger.
ReplyDeletePL: Got a couple of recipes, if it will help clear the way to officially turning NOLA into the nation's oil-well precipitation and contaminant-recovery pond.
ReplyDeleteGekko: Yup - been thinking about doing a post in which various types of redheads are discussed - gingers, Irish, reddish-auburn, faux, girl-next-door, and how to tell the difference with a properly directed, detailed personal examination...
But then I think, "Hey, who wants to see a post with a whole bunch of high-res toenail-to-hairline nekkid redheads with extensive notes as to what to look for to properly classify them?"
It would naturally include a batch of SereneBabe's bushy women to make a proper job of it (plumage coloration is SO important in the evaluation phase).
But is the demand there for it? Sadly, no. As everyone knows, nekkid women have always been a non-starter on the internet.
Drove through Treme a few weeks ago. It is nothing like the 9th Ward. For one thing, it's more or less above sea level. Also it's right up between the French Quarter and some nice neighborhoods along Esplanade. So breaching the levees to suck the slick up Ol Man River would mainly just screw with the floating casinos. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
