Police said on Sunday evening 30-year-old Marco Wesley waked into the middle of Lover’s Lane and stopped traffic. Now, it must have taken about, what, a week or so for him to punch through a windshield and actually manage to wedge himself through the hole into the passenger compartment while the hapless citizen simply sat there with her thumb up her ass. What's wrong with that picture?
When a woman driving an SUV wouldn’t open her door for him, Wesley jumped on the hood of the vehicle and smashed through the windshield with his bare hands, and widening the hole with his feet, forced his way through the hole, beat her, carjacked her, and dragged her down the street with a seatbelt that wouldn't come loose. OK, time for a review of some old principles since enough people have apparently forgotten them to allow crap like that to happen.
RULES FOR GUNFIGHTS and DEALING WITH DANGEROUS, DRUGGED UP ASSHOLES
Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to AVOIDANCE, DETERRENCE, and DE-ESCALATION. However, with that said:And the Golden Rule of combat operations: It is better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.
1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns. (Note: The taxpayer in this story VIOLATED THIS RULE, the one on which all the others depend, which is why she was the lead story last night I mean, c'mon. It's the FIRST ONE. What were you thinking?)
2. Anything or anyone worth shooting is worth shooting a lot. Ammo is cheap - life is expensive.
3. If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.
4. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movement are preferred.)
5. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running.
6. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. "All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket."
7. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
8. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
9. Have a plan.
10. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work.
11. Be prepared to think on your feet without freezing up, because the back-up plan probably won't work either.
12. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
13. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
14. Watch their hands. Hands kill. Your motto should be: "In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them."
15. Decide to be AGGRESSIVE enough QUICKLY enough..
16. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.
17. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
18. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
19. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which starts with anything smaller than "4".
20. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss, but you can't miss fast enough to win.

And had she done all that, she'd be in prison now.
ReplyDeleteWhat she should have done was not stop, but hindsight is 20/20.
Nope, not in Texas. Use of deadly force is specifically authorized by law in carjacking situations.
ReplyDeletePenal Code Sec. 9.32. DEADLY FORCE IN DEFENSE OF PERSON. (a) A person is justified in using deadly force against another:
----------
(1) knew or had reason to believe that the person against whom the deadly force was used:
(A) unlawfully and with force entered, or was attempting to enter unlawfully and with force, the actor's occupied habitation, vehicle, or place of business or employment;
Short version - carjacking will get you killed in Texas...assuming the car-owner followed the rules noted in the piece, anyhow...
Got it.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, and having nothing to do with this blog entry at all, I missed you hanging around. Wondered where you'd gotten off to - can't imagine how you managed to take a Euro vacation without me along, but I'll forgive you since France (as you noted) doesn't have any redheads anyhow.
ReplyDeleteBut, welcome back.
My policy is not to blab all over the interwebs that I'm leaving town. I need to expand my going-off-the-grid notification e-mail list. :-) Or figure out how to stay on the grid.
